What is 3ds Max?
3ds Max is the leading rendering and animation software used by architects and designers of all kinds. It is the design version of the popular 3ds Max software. 3ds Max Design is almost identical to 3ds Max.

What can you do with 3ds Max Design?
Model almost anything you can imagine, in 3D.
Import models from other 3D software such as Sketchup, AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Rhino 3D, ArchiCAD, etc.
Create and apply highly realistic materials to your model.
Create animations such as walkthroughs and flybys. Animate different parts of your model - eg make doors and windows open and close, signage illuminate and flash, water and trees move.
Create photorealistic renderings (still or animated) that can be saved to JPG, AVI or Quicktime formats, and many more.
Do you also teach regular 3ds Max?
Yes I do. 3ds Max is almost identical to 3ds Max Design. I teach 3ds Max from a design perspective, not from a character animator’s point of view. This means I will teach you everything you need to know in order to use 3ds Max for design purposes, but we won’t be exploring how to model and animate cartoon characters, for example, because those are the domain of character animators.
Do I need to know how to use AutoCAD/Revit/etc before I learn 3ds Max Design?
No you don’t need to know any 3D software before learning 3ds Max Design.
Don’t I need to know how to model in some other 3D software first?
No. 3ds Max Design contains full 3D modelling capabilities. I can teach you how to model in 3ds Max Design if you like. 3ds Max Design has a full complement of modelling tools, including NURBS objects for creating complex, smooth surfaces.
What if I want to use other 3D modelling software, so that I can then render and/or animate in 3ds Max Design?
Sure, no problem. 3ds Max accepts a wide range of 3D import file formats. It even accepts 2D Illustrator files (for use as profiles for extrusion, lathing and lofting).
I want to use other software to model in, then render and animate in 3ds Max. Can you help me?
Yes. I can teach you how to model in Sketchup or Revit. You might prefer to model in Sketchup, which is known for its ease of use and speed, or you might prefer to model in Revit Architecture, because your office already uses this because of its BIM (Building Information Management) aspects.
Can you teach me how to use the Vray renderer in 3ds Max Design?
Yes I can. Or if you prefer, I can teach you Vray for Sketchup if you're already a Sketchup user, or if you're looking for a slightly easier to learn version of Vray, or if you're a Mac user wanting to render in OS X.
How long will it take me to learn 3ds Max Design?
If you just want to use 3ds Max Design to apply materials, to render and to animate, around 18 to 20 hours is usually enough. If you also want to learn how to model in 3ds Max Design, you would need to add another 12 hours onto the first figure.
How much will this cost me?
Customised, individual training from CreativeTrain will cost you from $60 to $100 an hour. If this seems expensive, you should compare it to group class training. In a class, you will be one of 12, 15, 20 or even 25 students. If you’re in a class of 12 students, you will have to share the trainer’s time with 11 other people. The hourly cost of a class may seem cheap, but you’re only getting 1/12th of the trainer’s time. He or she can’t spend each whole hour with you personally. They have to divide their time among 12 different students. There is no point you spending $30 an hour if that $30 is only buying five minutes of the trainer’s time. Paying $30 an hour in a class of 12 students is the same as paying $360 an hour for a one on one class. Doesn’t make such great economic sense, does it?
How long will it take me to learn 3ds Max Design?
This depends on what you want to use 3ds Max Design for. If you just want produce still renders from models that you have already built in another 3D program, you could learn 3ds Max Design in two to three days. If you want to learn to produce animations as well as still renders, you would be looking at four days’ total training. If you want to learn how to model, render and animate in 3ds Max Design, this would take six days of training.
Do you offer fixed priced training packages?
Yes. If you sign up for a fixed duration package, you will receive a reduced hourly rate.
Can you train me and a few colleagues/friends together?
Sure. You can add extra people at no extra cost. You can use this as a way of reducing your overall costs.
