Sketchup is the simplest and fastest 3D modeller available. Unlike Revit Architecture, whose use is limited to architects and interior designers, Sketchup can be used by anyone. Easy to learn and fast to use, yet powerful and impressive in its results.
Why would I use Sketchup?
You would use Sketchup if you want to create 3D models quickly and easily.
Can I render and animate in Sketchup?
You can create simple renders and simple animations in Sketchup. It is also possible to purchase 3rd party plugin renderers for Sketchup, but these cost extra and involve varying levels of difficulty.
Can I combine Sketchup models with models created in other software?
Yes. Sketchup can import and export a range of different model file formats. Many other 3D programs (eg 3ds Max) can import Sketchup files to render and animate.
How long will it take me to learn Sketchup?
Sketchup can be learned in 10-16 hours. Usually around 12 hours is sufficient to learn everything you need to know.
What if I want better quality renders and animations?
Your first option would be to render and/or animate your Sketchup models in a separate program like 3ds Max Design. This would provide a high quality render suitable for presentation purposes. 3ds Max Design is capable of producing broadcast quality video and publication quality still renders. Your second option is to use a render plugin like Vray for Sketchup to produce high quality renders.
